Special screenings
2025/7/07

Every year, the so-called special screenings serve to commemorate important anniversaries and significant personalities as well as to highlight noteworthy titles that did not make it into the other sections. Two films will commemorate iconic actors who recently passed away: Alain Delon (1935–2024) excels in the crime thriller Flic Story, while Arthur Penn’s neo-noir Night Moves showcases Gene Hackman (1930–2025) at his best. On top of that, both films were released exactly 50 years ago. Another tribute, in the form of the historical TV crime drama Death in the Girardin Garden (1996), will be dedicated to long-time supporter and honorary patron of the Noir Film Festival, Hana Maciuchová (1945–2021). Next, we will take a deep dive into history with the silent film The Cheat (1915), accompanied by live music from cellist Terezie Kovalová, who is currently receiving acclaim for her solo album Zinka. After several years, František Vláčil’s Snake Poison (1981) returns to the festival program on the occasion of its debut on DVD. Finally, contemporary Czech production will be represented by the six-part miniseries The Well (2025), based on a notorious family tragedy from 1968.
